Who Needs a Visa?
Non-EU/EEA students require a Long Stay ‘D’ Visa to study in Ireland for more than 90 days
EU/EEA students do not require a visa but must comply with Irish school regulations
Visa Application Process
1) Secure a School Placement - Must have a confirmed place in an Irish school before applying for a visa.
2) Gather Required Documents
Completed visa application form (available online).
School acceptance letter from Organization (e.g.HSI) and the school.
Proof of tuition fee payment – full program fees paid upfront.
Parental consent letter allowing the child to study abroad.
Proof of accommodation ( homestay or boarding placement).
Medical insurance valid in Ireland.
Evidence of financial support (bank statements or sponsor letter).
3) Submit Your Visa Application
Apply online via AVATS (the Irish visa application system).
Submit documents and biometric data at the nearest Irish Embassy or Visa Application Centre.
Pay the visa fee (varies by country).
4) Wait for Processing
Processing time: 4 to 8 weeks (varies by location).
Regularly check visa status online.
5) Arriving in Ireland
Present passport, visa approval letter, and school acceptance letter at immigration.
Airport pickup and transfer to accommodation will be arranged prior to your arrival.
Important Notes:
Multiple-Entry Visa: Not typically issued on first application but can be requested after registration in Ireland.
Registration in Ireland: Non-EU/EEA students aged 16+ must register with Irish Immigration (GNIB/INIS) within 90 days of arrival (€300 fee may apply).
Early Applications Recommended: Apply at least 3-4 months before school start date.
