More Information

The General English course enables students to improve all aspects of their language and become more confident in communicating in English. This course is designed for students who want to improve their English skills for everyday communication in English, both written and spoken.

Courses run for 12 weeks at a time, but students can start on any Monday of the year and stay for as long or as short a time as they want. The course is based around recognised and successful textbooks.  All four English skills are taught:  Listening, speaking, reading and writing, plus grammar, syntax and vocabulary.

In addition to textbooks, the course uses authentic  sources, such as radio, TV, newspapers and internet to make the lessons truly interesting, engaging and useful.

The school uses the "communicative approach" to teaching, so students can get a real feel for the English language.

Activities are not included in the package but the school organises trips and activities every week as part of the Social Programme. Meeting other students and teachers, practising your English and making friends is an essential part of your study experience in the school. The school's social programme is run by teachers, so you can meet them outside the classroom and really get to know them.

The school chooses activities you can afford and where you can practise your English: pub quiz, karaoke and film nights. At least two activities every week are completely free.

Some visits in Liverpool are a must: You HAVE to visit The Cavern Club ,The Beatles Museum and the LFC Stadium.

The school chooses activities where you can make friends and have fun: paintball, football, games night, music night and ghost walks, but also activities that are cultural and informative such as visits to museums and art galleries. They also try to organise as many Saturday excursions as possible. Destinations have included: Chester, York, Lake District, Conwy and London.

The package includes accommodation with a host family, which is the best type of accommodation for those who want to fully immerse themselves in English culture. You will live with a local family with breakfast and an evening meal included. On Sundays, lunch will also be included.

Homestay hosts may be older people whose children have left home, they may be a full family with children, they may be a younger couple or single people. The school's homestay department spend a lot of time and care finding the most suitable host families; some of them can also cater for special diets, e.g. vegetarian or halal.

Most of the school's homestays are around 30 minutes by bus or train from the school. There are no homestays in the city centre. All families have been visited by the school and had a security check.

Homestay accommodation is:

  • Good for short stays
  • A great way to practise your language outside the classroom
  • A chance to immerse yourself in British culture
