The campus opened in autumn 2007 and is a vibrant academic village with high-tech buildings and attractive landscaped spaces.

The campus is on the eastern fringe of Edinburgh, right beside the seaside town of Musselburgh and is easily accessed from the city and beyond. It is also conveniently situated for leisure and shopping facilities. Musselburgh is a short walk away, and offers an appealing mix of shops, cafés, bars and leisure facilities, including a theatre and the famous racecourse. The Fort Kinnaird shopping complex is also within walking distance and includes an extensive range of retail outlets, plus a multi-screen cinema and bowling alley.

THE LOCATION

Edinburgh is a centre of culture with its extraordinary architectural heritage and historical magnificence. Built on seven hills, the city is divided into the medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town. The city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Edinburgh is well-known for its friendly people and its compact, green environment. It is one of the most student-friendly cities. The inspiring Capital has an ideal mix of shopping, entertainment, culture and history. It is a safe and prosperous city with plenty of parks and open public spaces. Edinburgh’s excellent architecture ranges
from ancient churches to monumental Victorian masterpieces - all dominated by a castle in the city’s heart.

Edinburgh Castle is the city’s most famous monument, built on an extinct volcano, at the top of the Royal Mile. Edinburgh is also a city of fine gardens and open spaces, Princes Street Gardens lie between the Old and New Towns.

Edinburgh is well known for the annual Edinburgh Festival which takes place in August. There is something for everyone: great pubs and restaurants, national museums and galleries, comedy, theatre and cinemas.

 

THE SCHOOL

The campus is on the eastern fringe of Edinburgh, right beside the seaside town of Musselburgh and is easily accessed from the city and beyond. It also neighbours the city by-pass.

The campus is very easy to reach by train, as it is situated right beside Musselburgh Station. The rail service from Edinburgh Waverley to Musselburgh takes around six minutes. The campus is also a short walk from Newcraighall Station which is eleven minutes from Edinburgh Waverley on the cross-rail line. There are frequent bus services to the area from central Edinburgh, currently taking around 30 minutes. There is a bus stop on campus situated adjacent to the student union, beside the main buildings. You can await your bus in comfort in a café situated directly beside the bus stop. Night buses also serve the area.

COURSES

Teachers deliver a personalised programme designed  to develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. They aim to increase student's awareness of English grammar and to extend their vocabulary. In  class students will work in pairs or small groups so they have the chance to speak as much English as possible. Teachers plan and prepare their lessons so that they are interactive and motivating, therefore students  will have a lot of fun in class. At the end of the course, students receive a certificate indicating the progress they have made.

Students will have to do a s standard placement test at the start of the course, all teaching material is provided, there are 15 hours of classes a week. Classes are held in the mornings and are limited to a maximum of 15 students ensuring optimum learning conditions.

There is a variety of student centred, interactive learning activities and resources, well planned English Language lessons that encourage the development of reading, writing, listening and speaking, a range of learning approaches and activities to meet the needs of all. Learning approaches  reflect that students have different preferred learning styles. There are opportunities for students to work in a variety of groupings: as individuals, in pairs, small groups and as a whole class and a  range of high quality extra-curricular activities which allow the students to develop their English Language skills in a more informal context. There is also an accompanied half day and full day excursion each week. Successful students are awarded a ‘Certificate of Completion’ detailing achievements and skill levels.

 

ACCOMMODATION

The Hall of residence is situated in a secure monitored location within the campus. The accommodation is arranged in apartments of 4 or 5 en-suite studies which also share a kitchen/lounge area.

There is WI-FI access for over 16 year old students only. All bed linen and towels are provided.

Damage deposit of £40 is payable on arrival, such deposit will be given back provided  no damage has been caused to the property by the student.

CARE AND WELFARE

The aim of the school's  staff, at all times, is to ensure that its visitors enjoy every aspect of Scotland from the moment they meet you at the airport until they wave goodbye as students return home.

The safety and security of visitors is of critical importance  the safety and happiness of  students is the school's priority during their stay with us in Scotland.

Every member of staff is on hand to ensure that students are happy in their studies and in their everyday life . Staff  are ready to offer advice and they are easy to talk to. There is a dedicated Welfare Coordinator on each campus 24 hours a day to help students with any matters.

 

RECREATION AND EXCURSIONS

The success of this school is due to the diverse and well organised activities programme on offer .

Each centres offers a range of first class facilities and resources that are utilised by their talented, well trained and knowledgeable activity staff to provide sports, creative arts, and entertaining evening activities to suit all ages and abilities.

This School offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor sporting activities that have been developed to meet the needs of all students regardless of gender, age or ability.

Sports activities are offered on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2pm - 5pm .

Arts and Crafts 

Highly skilled staff offer a range of creative arts workshops throughout the duration of the summer. These workshops are limited to small numbers to ensure that the maximum benefit is gained by all students who participate. Students are encouraged to perform or display their work to staff and students.

*There is a small additional charge of £5  for a T-shirt Design workshop if you do not provide your own T-shirt.

 

Evening Activities

Evening activities commence every day at 8.00pm and go on until 10.30pm. These activities are designed to allow students from different countries to socialise and make friends and of course practice their English in a more relaxed and informal atmosphere.

All activities are designed to allow each student to practice and develop their English skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The health and safety of each student is paramount therefore we ensure that we always have a  supervision ratio of 1:25. This ratio also ensures that each student gets the maximum enjoyment from each activity.

 

EXCURSIONS

A very important part of a visit to Scotland is soaking up the history and atmosphere of this proud and vibrant nation. The school, through years of experience, tries to ensure that their visitors experience as much as possible of the culture and mystery of Scotland.

We therefore ensure that students see such special places as:

  • The historic and beautiful City of Edinburgh, the Capital of Scotland.
  • The vibrant and 'New' Glasgow, City of Culture.
  • Stirling, a City of Mystery, the Castle and the Wallace Monument.
  • The Town of St Andrews, 'The Home of Golf', not to be missed.
  • Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, the heart and soul of Scotland.

In addition to these excursions there are a variety of walks and tours organised at each of our centres to local places of interest.

 

DAMAGE DEPOSIT

On arrival, every student is required to pay a deposit of £40 against possible damage or loss of keys. This deposit will be refunded on departure providing that no damage or loss of keys has taken place.

 

EXTRA CHARGES

There is an extra charge of £75 for unaccompanied minors
