London, the Capital city of England, is one of the most famous and multi-cultural cities in the world.  Over 15 million tourists visit London every year. Favourite places include: the London Eye, Westminster Houses of Parliament and Oxford Street. London has something for everyone.

The Avery Hill Campus, Southwood Site, is in the lovely Avery Hill Park in Eltham, south-east London. It has some excellent teaching, living and sporting facilities.

The Southwood Site has a general shop and a launderette, tennis courts, and a large park for touch rugby, football and rounders. ‘The Dome’ in the centre of the complex, houses the food hall. At Sparrows Farm, there are also evening disco facilities.

THE LOCATION

Located in the middle of South East London, Greenwich University sits in an ideal location to see all that the UK’s capital city has to offer.
With its history dating back to Roman times and now viewed to be one of the most Cosmopolitan cities in the world, it is no surprise that over 15 million tourists choose to visit London every year, with notable highlights including the London Eye, Westminster Houses of Parliament and Oxford Street, to name but a few. It is fair to say, London has something for everyone.

 

THE SCHOOL

This Summer School is based at Greenwich University which is located in 86 acres of beautiful parkland, in the heart of South East London. The campus is just over one hour from London Heathrow Airport.

The campus offers excellent sports facilities as well as general amenities such as general shops, launderette and a cafe. The University is located just a short walk away from the town of Eltham- home to plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants, a cinema and a bowling alley. Eltham was also famously home to Henry VIII in the late 15th Century, and so many tourists regularly visit Eltham Palace to see the home of the British Monarch. Only a 20-minute drive from Campus also lies one of Europe’s biggest shopping centres- Bluewater

 

COURSES

Teachers deliver a personalised programme designed  to develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. They aim to increase student's awareness of English grammar and to extend their vocabulary. In  class students will work in pairs or small groups so they have the chance to speak as much English as possible. Teachers plan and prepare their lessons so that they are interactive and motivating, therefore students  will have a lot of fun in class. At the end of the course, students receive a certificate indicating the progress they have made.

Students will have to do a standard placement test at the start of the course, all teaching material is provided, there are 15 hours of classes a week. Classes are held in the mornings and are limited to a maximum of 15 students, ensuring optimum learning conditions.

There is a variety of student centred, interactive learning activities and resources and well planned English Language lessons that encourage the development of reading, writing, listening and speaking, a range of learning approaches and activities to meet the needs of all. Learning approaches  reflect that students have different preferred learning styles. There are opportunities for students to work in a variety of groupings: as individuals, in pairs, small groups and as a whole class and a  range of high quality extra-curricular activities which allow the students to develop their English Language skills in a more informal context.There is also an accompanied half day and full day excursion each week. Successful students are awarded a ‘Certificate of Completion’ detailing achievements and skill levels.

 

ACCOMMODATION

The University halls of residence offers en-suite accommodation in a ‘Village Complex’. Furnished to a high standard the halls have contemporary fully-equipped kitchens and free Wi-Fi. The residence has 24hr security presence, CCTV and secure access entry systems, ensuring our student’s safety and security. All bed linen and towels are provided.

CARE AND WELFARE

The aim of the school's  staff, at all times, is to ensure that its visitors enjoy every aspect of Scotland from the moment they meet you at the airport until they wave goodbye as students return home.

The safety and security of visitors is of critical importance  the safety and happiness of  students is the school's priority during their stay with us in Scotland.

Every member of staff is on hand to ensure that students are happy in their studies and in their everyday life . Staff  are ready to offer advice and they are easy to talk to. There is a dedicated Welfare Coordinator on each campus 24 hours a day to help students with any matters.
