Dean Close School is located in Cheltenham, a historic city  in the west of England. It entertained a Royal visit from King George III in the 18th century and still looks regal with a host of buildings and streets built in the Regency style. There are award-winning gardens, an impressive range of stylish shops and restaurants, and prestigious festivals of horse racing, music and literature. Dean Close School is set on the edge of the Cotswolds, a famous region of England’s countryside and is perfectly located between the midlands and London, each being between an hour and two hours away.

Students are divided by age groups:

  • 10 to 15
  • 16 & 17

Swimming pool - New sports hall - Squash courts - Cricket nets & pitches - AstroTurf pitches - WiFi - Extensive playing fields - Tennis courts - Common rooms for students - Computer room - Professional theatre

Rooms at Dean Close are of a good standard, with clean and comfortable dormitories available in four different buildings located around the school campus. There is a variety of room sizes available, most of which are twin and multi bedded rooms. En-suites are available for a supplement. Boys and girls will be separated on different floors in each building.

At Dean Close a great emphasis is put on creating a natural, balanced menu for all students to promote healthy bodies and healthy minds. Food is served in a purpose-built dining hall that can comfortably sit all students at the same time. All dietary requirements can be catered for.

Students receive 3 hours actual teaching per day, total 15 hours per week. Residential Courses have morning lessons and afternoon sports and activities.  All members of a group must have the same course of lessons.

The safety of our junior students is our prime concern. We ensure that they are always under the supervision of the school's trained staff whether in class or participating in activities. Home-stay junior students are placed in experienced families.  Each centre has a junior liaison officer responsible for overall supervision.   Social Club excursion tickets are sold to junior students aged 15 and under on the condition that they agree to stay with the staff escort, group leader or another responsible adult at all times.  For those kids residing with families, after full day coach trips we arrange for students to leave the coach close to their families and after evening activities. Activity Leaders will ensure that their students get home safely.

NOTE: Please note that children aged 10 and 11 must have a Residential Course.

Students taking a Residential Course need only bring their personal spending money - everything else is included. Student's pocket money may be deposited with the centre either before or on arrival. Notice of 2 days must be given when large amounts of pocket money are required.

All Residential courses and Residential Home-stay courses include a comprehensive Activity Programme of excursions, sports and activities. The programmes are run by the resident Activity Leaders and their teams. The school reserves the right to amend the activity programme according to prevailing circumstances and to substitute one activity for another. The replacement will be of equal or greater value. The school also reserves the right to change the order of activities . Tickets are non-transferable. Booking for an activity programme or additional trips must normally be for the complete group. We cannot guarantee a choice of Social Club activities for reservations made after April 15th.

Activities at Dean Close School are the following:

  • Football
  • Tennis
  • Squash
  • Cricket
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Arts & craft
  • Swimming
  • Volleyball
  • Nature walks

Older teens need extra challenges and space to express themselves as young adults. For this reason, we include a programme of separate activities specifically aimed at 16-17 year olds, including additional afternoon free time in Cheltenham, photography/design competitions and practical opportunities to practice their English. Social evenings such as going to the cinema or bowling are offered at a supplement.
