Our Japanese course is taught by Akemi Solloway who is a respected teacher of Japanese language.
Since 1992, Akemi Solloway has been helping individuals and groups to undertake personal projects in or
related to Japan. She has also assisted many Japanese artists, academics and educators from Japan to
visit the UK and carry out projects in this country. Her previous clients include Toshiba, NEC, JAL, JTB
and Rothschild.
Akemi believes that it is essential for students of Japanese language to understand the underlying culture, so her lessons
often include aspects of the arts and customs of traditional and modern Japan.
Akemi Solloway (née Tanaka) is the daughter of an old samurai family and grew up immersed in the traditional arts and
culture of Japan. Her name in Japanese means "Bright and Beautiful".
Among her past activities, she has dressed Kelly Osbourne in a kimono for a magazine photo shoot, performed a tea
ceremony for the Lord Mayor of London, worked with a BBC documentary team on Japanese ideals of beauty and assisted
a prince of the Japanese imperial family with a speech to an international gathering of martial artists.
